This confirmation dialog should describe the potential irreversible result of the action. Restating the action itself results in an interaction with an oddly circular feel.

The results of the action must be relevant to the user. Are these “data statistics” important to the user?

Microsoft’s new mobile Remote Desktop app is incredible. I can change the access control settings on the kids’ PC from downstairs while they sleep. It’s a very high-quality app, so this message came as a bit of a surprise:

At first glance it looks like a case of jargon, but it’s more likely this is “placeholder text” that wasn’t written by Tech Docs and was not caught by QA.

I think the circular feedback text results from the decision to use a “Do not show again” checkbox. The checkbox is probably unnecessary; the message should just notify the user that voice prompts have been disabled and can be re-enabled in the Settings.

Gale: “Alright all you hayseeds, it’s a stickup! Everybody freeze! Everybody down on the ground!”

Bank Teller: “Now, what’s it gonna be young feller? You want I should freeze or get down on the ground? ‘Cause if’n I freeze, I can’t rightly drop. And if’n I drop, I’m gonna be in motion.”

Now what’s it gonna be, Microsoft? You want I should wait or click there to refresh?

Does this mean the same as “Configuration settings will be unmodified during the upgrade process”?

Since Microsoft Bob, cute avatars have mostly served to enrage users. It’s kind of frightening how large this thing is, if one takes the scale of the power outlet into account.

Normally we’d call this “Custom Install” and “Express Install”, but whatever floats your boat.
